Student Excursion: Exploring the Ice Age Trail with the Mammoth Hike Challenge
October 3, 2025
At Algoma Venture Academy (AVA), learning doesn’t just happen inside four walls—it happens out in the world. As part of our fall excursion, AVA students will lace up their hiking boots and take on a portion of the Mammoth Hike Challenge, hosted by the Ice Age Trail Alliance.
The Mammoth Hike Challenge invites participants across Wisconsin to hike, walk, or backpack along segments of the Ice Age Trail during the month of October. While our students won’t complete the full challenge in one day, they’ll get a firsthand taste of this incredible outdoor adventure. By hiking together for several hours, they’ll not only experience the natural beauty of the Ice Age Trail but also discover how hiking can build resilience, spark curiosity, and inspire a lifelong love of the outdoors.
What AVA Students Will Experience:
- Immersive Outdoor Learning: Step into Wisconsin’s natural landscapes and explore unique ecosystems shaped by glaciers.
- Physical Challenge & Growth: Build stamina and confidence while hiking alongside peers.
- Community & Teamwork: Strengthen bonds with classmates through shared outdoor experiences.
- New Passions: Discover the joy of hiking and perhaps even take on the Mammoth Hike Challenge beyond this excursion.
Why AVA?
At AVA, we believe learning should be engaging, active, and connected to the real world. Adventures like the Mammoth Hike Challenge show students that education can be as dynamic as it is meaningful. From caves to coastlines to trails, our learners step beyond the classroom to connect with nature, practice collaboration, and expand their horizons.
If you’re looking for a school where education is hands-on, exciting, and transformative, AVA could be the perfect fit. Discover how AVA inspires curiosity, builds confidence, and helps students grow both inside and outside the classroom.
