AVA Beach Clean Up at Crescent Beach

September 26, 2025

Each year, AVA students take part in a meaningful community project: our annual Beach Clean Up at Crescent Beach. This event is a partnership between AVA, Friends of Crescent Beach, and our public elementary school’s second grade class. It’s more than just a chance to pick up litter—it’s a hands-on learning experience that connects students to their community and environment.

During the clean up, students walk the shoreline with younger peers, collecting trash and debris that can harm wildlife and the natural beauty of the beach. Along the way, they discuss topics like erosion, water quality, and why keeping beaches clean is so important for both people and nature. By teaching younger students, AVA learners reinforce their own understanding while practicing leadership and communication skills.

This event also highlights the value of stewardship. Students see firsthand how their efforts make a visible difference in the health of a local landmark. They learn that small actions, like removing a piece of plastic or helping a classmate understand erosion, add up to meaningful change. It’s an opportunity to experience the impact of community service in real time.

The Beach Clean Up is a tradition our students look forward to every year. It combines environmental science, civic engagement, and collaboration into one memorable day outside the classroom. By the end, students not only leave the beach cleaner but also carry with them a deeper appreciation for the role they play in caring for the world around them.

At AVA, we believe learning should be active, purposeful, and rooted in real-life experiences like this. Interested in seeing how AVA can shape your student’s education? Explore what makes our school different and discover how you can be part of our community.
